A recent trend is seeing luxury hotels install recording studios for guest use, including the world-first W Sound Suite at the newly opened W Retreat and Spa Bali – Seminyak.

Inspired by the idea that a hotel room should be more than just a place to sleep, W has joined forces with DJ White Shadow to create the bespoke Sound Suite. The acoustically treated space includes a recording studio big enough for a small entourage, plus a lounge and private vocal booth overlooking a tropical garden. It also boasts professional equipment from industry favourites Native Instruments, Pioneer and Moog.
The hotel has also partnered with local record label HEADSTREAM to provide a platform for upcoming Indonesian music artists to create, share and grow. HEADSTREAM’s initial focus is on introducing the music of desa Potato Head to a wider audience, with an impressive roster that already includes Midland, Honey Dijon, Palms Trax and Peggy Gou. It will also feature documentary film streams, with plans to branch out into other arts and culture in the future.
